Timber merchant Linnell Bros has strengthened its operations with significant investment in both its delivery fleet and manufacturing facilities, supporting growing customer demand and expanding production capacity.
The 145-year-old, family-run business, based in Silverstone, has added a new 7.5-tonne delivery truck and a 26-tonne HIAB lorry to its transport fleet, while also installing a new cross-cut line and double-ended tenoner at its timber mill.
The new machinery is designed to improve processing speed and accuracy, enhancing the mill’s ability to manufacture bespoke timber products for both trade and retail customers. The investment supports a wide range of specialist services, including bespoke gate manufacturing, morticing, V-notching, round-topping and arris rail shaping.
Roger Linnell, Director at Linnell Bros, said: “The cross-cut line and tenoner mean we can work faster and more accurately on the mill floor, which matters when so much of what we produce is made to order. It’s vital to give our team the right tools to keep quality high as demand continues to grow.”
Fifth-generation Director Callum Jones said the investment will also help the business maintain consistency as production volumes increase.
He said: “Customers expect a consistent finish whether they’re ordering one gate or a thousand metres of fencing, and this kit helps us maintain that standard while remaining competitive.”
Alongside the mill investment, Linnell Bros has expanded and modernised its transport operation by replacing older vehicles with two new DAF trucks. The business now operates a seven-vehicle fleet comprising four 26-tonne crane lorries and three 7.5-tonne delivery trucks.
The larger HIAB vehicles are used for site deliveries and crane offloading, while the smaller trucks provide greater flexibility for local and lower-volume deliveries.
Director John Linnell said: “A modern fleet is essential to ensuring timber is delivered safely and on time. Expanding the fleet allows us to maintain that level of service as we continue to grow.”
James Linnell, Director, added that having a mix of vehicle sizes enables the business to improve operational efficiency while providing customers with a more flexible delivery service.
