Travis Perkins Hire senior leaders step into branch roles to reward colleagues

Senior leaders at Travis Perkins Hire swapped their office roles for the trade counter and yard as part of an initiative to reward branch colleagues for their performance.

Managing director Ian Sharman-Jones led members of the senior leadership team at the Bristol St Philips branch, where they took on the day-to-day operational duties normally carried out by the branch team.

The leadership team served customers both in person and over the phone, alongside testing and cleaning equipment during the day.

The initiative was organised as the main prize in an internal competition involving all 270 Travis Perkins Hire branches.

Teams competed in a bingo-style challenge, with branches required to complete 25 tasks over the course of a month to achieve a ‘full house’.

Bristol St Philips and Aylesbury were the two branches to complete the challenge and secure the main prize, giving their respective teams a day away from their usual roles.

More than 30 other branches also received pizza vouchers for their efforts.

Sharman-Jones said the experience provided an opportunity for senior leaders to recognise the work carried out by branch colleagues while also getting back to the operational side of the business.

“It was a real pleasure for myself and other members of the SLT to give our successful colleagues a day off and to step up and do important work in the branch,” he said.

“I used to work in branches so it was enjoyable to roll back the years and carry out some of the tasks our colleagues do so brilliantly every day.”

Travis Perkins Hire provides a range of equipment and tools to trade and construction customers, with thousands of products available for projects of all sizes.
