BMI UK & Ireland has completed a £6.3m refurbishment of its Redland clay tile plant and kiln in Coventry, with production now back underway following five months of planned maintenance.
The investment has upgraded the site’s kiln infrastructure, including new gas and control equipment designed to improve production efficiency and support ongoing demand for clay roofing products.
The kiln entrance has also been repainted and fitted with upgraded equipment and hydraulics as part of the refurbishment.
Damien Pooley, Portfolio Manager – Pitched Roofing at BMI UK & Ireland, said the investment demonstrated the company’s continued commitment to UK manufacturing and its Rosemary clay tile range.
“Clay will always have a future in roofing,” said Pooley.
“We’re committed to UK manufacturing and our iconic Rosemary tile range, and this major investment allows us to strengthen our future manufacturing capabilities.”
He added that the benefits of the refurbishment were already being seen following the return to production, with teams across the plant working together to improve efficiency.
“This was a genuine team effort, with colleagues across the plant collaborating to improve efficiency based on their day-to-day, intimate understanding of our kiln operations,” Pooley said.
“We’re incredibly proud of the result and what it means for both our customers and employees.”
The Coventry facility has manufactured BMI Redland’s Rosemary clay roof tile since 1989.
Combining a traditional appearance with modern manufacturing techniques, the Rosemary range has become one of the UK’s best-known clay roof tile products.
The completion of the refurbishment means production has now resumed, with BMI continuing to manufacture the range at its long-established Coventry facility.
